5 BEST DESSERTS IN KANSAS CITY

Try one of these 5 sweet Kansas City desserts—for a treat to remember.

ICE-CREAM AND SORBET—GLACÉ

Glacé was founded by Christopher Elbow, Kansas City’s premier chocolatier, who loves to design unique ice-creams. Elbow uses Midwest milk and all-natural ingredients in small batches to create fearless flavors, like: Basil Lime Sorbet, Strawberry Beet, Salted Pretzel, Boulevard Dark Truth Stout, and Organic Rose Petal & Pistachio.

CUPCAKES—SMALLCAKES CUPCAKERY AND CREAMERY

Local founder Jeff Martin opened the first Smallcakes in the Kansas City area in 2008, and since then it has grown into a wildly popular concept with 250 global locations—listed by USA Today as one of the “Top 10 Cupcake Places to Try in the Country.” The highly addictive flavors include Lemon Drop, Birthday Cupcake, Caramel Crunch, and Hot Fudge Sundae (complete with a cherry on top).

CRÊPES—CHEZ ELLE CRÊPERIE & COFFEEHOUSE

Try an authentic, freshly prepared crêpe at this casual, French-themed coffeehouse, tucked inside an old neighborhood theater. Guests love the Au Chocolat—chocolate crêpe batter with chocolate mousse and raspberry sauce—as well as the classic Paris, Nutella and banana topped with whipped cream. The Glace is straight-up vanilla ice-cream, strawberries, and crème Anglaise.

FUDGE-STUFFED PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES—TANNIN WINE BAR & KITCHEN

Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen is a gourmet bistro in the Crossroads district, dedicated to people obsessed with good food and wine. Their “must-try” dessert is the fudge-stuffed peanut butter cookies, baked to order with caramel sauce. For an extra few bucks, you can order them “Elvis-style,” topped with banana ice-cream and bacon.

GOURMET DONUTS—DONUT KING

Why not have a donut for dessert? Donut King has served the Kansas City Northland with their award-winning donuts since 1969—and now offers gourmet coffee and cupcakes too. Unlike other donut shops, they’re open til 11 p.m. most nights, so you can drop by after dinner. They have 44 different types of donuts, plus danishes, cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, and cookie bars. Try the popular Peanut Butter Donut, Chocolate Mint Donut, and Caramel Apple Donut.
